About Ishmail

Ishmail is a listserv, or electronic mailing list, devoted to the discussion and exploration of all Melville-related subjects. The list is open free of charge to anyone who wishes to join. Upon subscribing you will automatically begin to receive E-Mail of all new messages posted to the group, and, of course, will have the option of participating in discussions yourself.

Ishmail is directed by John Bryant of Hofstra University and is sponsored by The Melville Society, a long-established organization of almost 700 members whose contribution to the advancement of Melville research and scholarship cannot be underestimated. All new subscribers to Ishmail receive a letter of welcome that provides information on how to join this important and influential group.

To subscribe to Ishmail, send the following message:

to: mailserv@hofstra.edu

*NOTE: The character after the hyphen is the lowercase letter "l" as in "list". It is not the number "1".

So, if your name were Hosea Hussey, your message would be:
